Project Description: In this project we got into groups, (or solo), of two, three, and four. In these groups we discussed and chose what topic we wanted to focus on for our piece. My group chose quite the controversial topic at the time since it was about the presidential elections and election day was the day before. We made poems and got critique from peers while doing many rehearses memorizing our lines. (Even though one of my group members flubbed his line at exhibition). In our poem we discussed how the media can heavily influence their readers, and how the debates became an arguing contest. With our first drafts of our poem came many problems, our poem was in the completely wrong format, luckily we fixed it up and kept adding as many allusions and creating a good mix of controversy in our poem.

Project Reflection: Celebration Slam Reflection:
At exhibition night the time came when I was up to perform. I remember the feeling of excitement and uneasiness when walking up and standing in front of the audience. I remember all the kids and parents that attended and watched contently. I could hear the silence of the audience adamantly waiting to here what we had to say. All I could smell was the dry dust blowing in my hair and on my clothes making me feel like a desert tortoise. I could taste the sweat dripping onto my lip from my cheeks. My perspective and opinion on poetry has changed very slightly due to this project. Before this project I always knew that poetry had a big impact on the way people see things and how it was a way people used to express feelings and thoughts in a different way. But this is the first time i've actually experienced it and I can say that it really makes you feel like you're really powerful. Something that surprised me was how one of my group members Guy said his lines. It's not that I thought he couldn't it was just that I during most of the rehearses he didn't have much passion in hi voice. But during the actual exhibition he really pulled through and said his lines with lots of emotion and care in his voice. Another thing that happened was one of my group members messed up one of his lines and I was able to keep going with my other lines. Not that it was a good thing, but that I was able to put my practice into play. A growing moment for me was when I was enunciating my lines. Since I have braces it’s always been a hard time for me to enunciate my words, but through the practicing and multiple critiques by Ms.Britt, I was able to open my mouth and enunciate my words clearly. Even after I knew how to enunciate my words I had to practice on how to say my lines and to create a rhythm to my poem. I learned how quickly and in what tone to say my lines so that they were powerful but still stood in with my poem and what it was about. I think one thing I could change was the amount of lines I gave myself. It's not that my teammates were taking up all the work, I had basically freerange to change lines and change orders near the beginning of each draft. Maybe it was that I didn't realize till to late that I should have had more lines, but I think that it was also a mixture of me not wanting all those lines so I had less work. So I would give myself more lines or I would change the order so I had some of the longer more meaningful``` lines like my partners. |
